WOW! This summer is already almost over. It's been quite eventful with fun, as well as prompted reflection. I'm going to start with the events that give me pause.

Life is full of ups and downs, and as the summer season draws to a close, let's take a moment to consider how we are seasoning our own lives. A quote from Mother Teresa sums it up:

"Life is a promise; fulfill it."

Despite the summer heat, the news in our country remains a hot topic that highlights the importance of good leadership in various settings such as workplaces, schools, and communities. Unfortunately, (from my lens) some leaders are doubting the value of cultural elements that promote a sense of belonging. The coaching and training I provide are primarily focused on Leadership and DEI. These two subjects are intertwined, and I feel that it's important to shed some light on their connection.

Many current news stories and events are concerning to me not just for business purposes, but for the good of our society, as well. I have some non-political and relevant examples to share, so I hope you'll keep reading. To begin, let's explore some of the various dimensions of diversity which include generational, religious, physical disabilities, socio-economic status, citizenship, neurodiversity, sexual orientation, age, and of course, race and gender. It's important to recognize that diversity encompasses much more than just race and gender, which are often the first elements of diversity that come to mind.

It's already the end of June and summertime is in full swing! Are you feeling excited about all the progress you've made towards your goals or are you feeling a bit overwhelmed?

Do you feel like shouting “Yikes” or “Yay”?

Regardless of where you're at, I'm here to encourage you to continue pushing forward and striving toward success by reflecting on goal-setting, utilizing effective tools, and recognizing the value of stretching beyond your comfort zone.

As someone who loves sports, I often find valuable lessons in them. Today, I want to draw comparisons between creating a successful team in your organization and what's currently happening in the NBA. If you're new here, I'm thrilled to have you.

There is a lot of buzz on social media about the value of women and how we can make a difference in the lives of others, and I love that.

Who’s the most important person for you to lead?

YOU are my friend. You are the most important person to lead, everyone else comes after you.

It’s February, which means we get to be mindful and express love all month (even more than usual) and it’s Black History month so we get to intentionally take the opportunity to learn and understand the black culture.

I just finished teaching a course on Organizational Leadership which included essential leadership traits, and leadership models. It sparked me to share some critical questions for you as you wrap up this year so you can be ready for the new year.

This is the time of year we pause and reflect on all that we are grateful for, and count our blessings. Our reasons for gratitude far surpass our reasons to gripe.

We've gone through yet again, another tough year. We've celebrated peaks, and we've conquered valleys. Can I encourage you to give yourself some grace? So, you missed a deadline. Maybe you forgot an event that was on your calendar. Or, perhaps you didn't quite achieve some of your work goals that didn't level up to your expectations.

My guess is...you did your best. Please cut yourself some slack. Give yourself some grace.

How have you, your team and partnerships transformed this year?

I love butterflies (this is a picture of my fence on my backyard patio). I am amazed with their transitioning from the furry and unattractive (in my opinion) caterpillars and transforming into beautiful colorful creatures that fly around with grace and beauty.

I love football (college and NFL). I love leaders who lead teams to victory and make adjustments down the field to victory.

I love the energy, the competition, but most of all I love how the lessons apply to business and life. Whether or not you have the title as a leader, my guess is that you lead others, and coach them to reach their potential.

Even if you’re not a football fan, I encourage you to keep reading for lessons you can apply because one thing I know about you is that you are determined and committed to lead your team to thrive. We are only wrapping up week three of the season, but here are three keys so far…
